So I bring this Jeep to the garage and do what most guys do, stare at it and think ....what is my wife gonna say?
The front end was in fairly good condition.   Hit on the driver side, down by the step, the fender was raised and damaged slightly.   The grill had been dented but repairable.  No BO light on fender but the holes were welded up.
The dash was complete except for the dash lights and ignition switch.   Still need the switch.   The glove box was locked shut but a H700 key fit perfectly.  Broken driver side windshield.  Took out a replacement from the '44 Willys that came with the '42.
"WILLYS" script on rear was discontinued in late March or early April of '42.   I hadn't even noticed it when making the purchase but with a big toothy grin, my son pointed it out to me.    We were  in the garage planning and scheming when he said "Hey dad, look here under the gas can holder."

The finished product.  Ready to go.   Oh, did I mention the engine?    Well, its very sad, it seems to be none the less for wear and is ready for a fall project too....
With fine sanpaper I sanded down the area of the hood where I suspected a number would be hidden and voila!   Lightly...very lightly

The almost finished product.   A 1942 early "WILLYS" script jeep.  This was fun and worth the effort.
